Return-reason audit
Customer return reports, return reasons, Voice of the Customer comments, reviews and buyer messages read product by product to find the real causes, not just the codes buyers pick.
CommerceKind is an Amazon agency that helps brands bring down high return rates. Our in-house team reads your return reasons, customer return reports, Voice of the Customer comments and reviews, finds the expectation gaps behind them and fixes what we control on Amazon: titles, bullets, images, size charts, compatibility details, A+ Content, variation set-up and the questions shoppers ask before they buy. We share packaging and product feedback with your team, watch your NCX rate, frequently returned item warnings and FBA returns fees, and report return rate by product every week.

Titles, bullets, images and A+ Content rewritten so size, fit, materials, colour, dimensions, compatibility and what is in the box are obvious before purchase.
Size charts, fit notes and parent-child variations rebuilt so shoppers choose the right size, colour or model the first time.
Products flagged with a frequently returned item warning or a high NCX rate in Voice of the Customer prioritised, with fixes tracked until the signal improves.
Damage, defect and missing-part patterns sent to your team with photos and examples, so packaging, inserts and quality checks can be fixed at the source.
Returns processing fees and return thresholds watched by category, and eligible FBA customer-return reimbursements filed through our reimbursement service.
| What it usually means | What we change | |
|---|---|---|
| Too small, too large or poor fit | The size chart or fit description did not match the product | Size chart, fit notes, model measurements and size-variation names |
| Not as described | Images or copy set the wrong expectation on colour, material, size or features | Main and secondary images, bullets and A+ Content |
| Incompatible or not useful | Shoppers could not tell what it works with | Compatibility tables, model lists and use-case images |
| Defective, damaged or missing parts | Product, packaging or inbound handling issue | Feedback to your team, packaging and insert changes, FBA prep checks |
| Better price elsewhere or no longer needed | Buyer remorse or price perception | Value framing, bundles and fewer impulse deals on high-return items |
We pull return and Voice of the Customer data by product and rank products by return cost, not just return count.

Every return costs a brand the shipping, the fees and often the product itself, and high returns can also hurt a listing. Amazon can show a frequently returned item warning on product pages, flag products with a high negative customer experience (NCX) rate in Voice of the Customer and charge FBA returns processing fees in some categories when returns pass a threshold. Products with poor reviews and high returns also tend to convert worse. Bringing returns down protects margin, rankings and account health at the same time.
Many returns happen because the product page set the wrong expectation: the shopper picked the wrong size, misread the dimensions, expected a different colour or could not tell whether it fit their device. We rewrite titles, bullets and A+ Content, add measurement, scale and in-the-box images and rebuild size charts so the buyer knows exactly what will arrive. In one account, fixing listings before scaling ads turned a declining product around: see the listing-first case study. See also our Amazon listing optimization and A+ Content services.
Return reason codes are a start, but buyers often pick the nearest option. We read the free-text comments in customer return reports, Voice of the Customer, reviews and buyer messages, group them into causes and estimate what each cause costs. That shows which few products and fixes will remove most of the return cost.
Apparel and shoes usually have the highest return rates on Amazon, mostly from size and fit. We rebuild size charts in the units shoppers use, add fit notes and model measurements, align size names across variations and answer fit questions directly on the page. See our Amazon agency for apparel brands page.
When returns come from defects, damage or missing parts, the fix is upstream. We send your team the patterns with examples, recommend packaging, insert and quality-check changes and check FBA prep and labelling so products arrive as intended. Eligible FBA customer returns that were never received back or were damaged by Amazon can be claimed through our Amazon reimbursement services.
Some products sell well on ads but come back at a high rate. Our Amazon PPC management sets budgets from contribution margin after returns, not from gross sales, so spend moves toward products that stay sold. Results depend on product, margin and category, and we share a plan after reviewing your account.

Yes. CommerceKind reviews your return reasons, customer return reports, Voice of the Customer comments and reviews, then fixes listings, images, size charts, compatibility details and variations, sends packaging and product feedback to your team and tracks return rate, NCX rate and returns fees by product every week.
It depends on the category. Apparel and shoes usually return far more than home, beauty or grocery products. Amazon compares products with similar items, so we benchmark your return rate against your category and focus on products that stand out.
Amazon can show a frequently returned item message on product pages that are returned more often than similar products. It can lower conversion, so we prioritise those products and fix the causes behind the returns.
NCX (negative customer experience) rate is the share of orders with negative signals such as returns, negative reviews or complaints, shown in the Voice of the Customer dashboard in Seller Central. A high NCX rate can lead Amazon to suppress a listing, so we track it by product.
Listing and size-chart fixes take effect on new orders right away, and return data lags by a few weeks. Packaging and product changes take longer. We report the trend weekly by product.
Indirectly. Returns processing fees apply in some categories when returns pass a threshold, so lowering return rates on those products reduces the fees. We also file eligible FBA customer-return reimbursement claims.
No. We fix what we manage on Amazon and give your team clear packaging and product recommendations with examples. You decide what to change.
