You check your listing and someone else is selling your product, often cheaper, sometimes holding the Buy Box. Before you send angry messages, work out what kind of seller it is. The fix depends on it.
Find out who the seller is and what they’re actually shipping. Do a test buy. If the item is fake or different from your listing, report it through Brand Registry’s Report a Violation tool with your evidence. If it’s genuine stock, trace where it came from and fix your distribution. Then use Transparency and regular monitoring so it doesn’t keep happening.
| Type | What’s happening | What works |
|---|---|---|
| Counterfeit seller | Fake product sold on your listing | Test buy, then report with evidence |
| Different product | Their item doesn’t match your listing | Test buy, then report as not matching |
| Reseller of genuine stock | Real product, bought from a distributor or retailer | Trace the source, tighten distribution |
| Listing edits | Someone changed your title, images or details | Check Brand Registry content controls, fix and report |
Our brand protection team handles hijackers and counterfeit reports for the brands we work with: Brand Registry setup, test buys, violation reports and ongoing monitoring of listings and offers. We do this across Amazon marketplaces, including the US, UK and Canada.
See our Amazon brand protection service, or if the hijacker took your Buy Box, read how to win it back.
A seller who adds an offer to your product listing without your permission. Some sell counterfeits, some sell genuine stock they bought elsewhere, and some sell something different under your listing.
Usually not through an infringement report. If the goods are genuine and match the listing, it’s a distribution issue. You deal with it by finding where the stock comes from and tightening who you sell to.
You order the product from the hijacker’s offer and inspect what arrives. Photos and packaging differences give you the evidence for a counterfeit or “not as described” report.
If you’re in Amazon Brand Registry, use the Report a Violation tool with your evidence, such as test buy photos and order details. Without Brand Registry your options are much more limited.
Transparency puts unique codes on each unit, and Amazon checks them before shipping. Units without valid codes can’t ship as your product, which makes counterfeits much harder to sell on enrolled products.
