Sponsored Products vs Sponsored Brands vs Sponsored Display

Amazon gives brands three classic self-serve ad types. They look similar in the console, but they do different jobs. Here’s a plain comparison, plus one recent change worth knowing about Sponsored Display.

Short answer

Sponsored Products sell individual products to people already searching. Sponsored Brands build recognition at the top of search with video, images or collections. Sponsored Display, now part of Amazon’s display ads, reaches relevant audiences on and off Amazon. Most brands need Sponsored Products first, then layer the others on.

When to use each

Sponsored ProductsYour base. Captures shoppers searching for what you sell and sends them straight to the product.
Sponsored BrandsUse once you have several products and a Brand Store. Good for branded and category searches.
Display adsUse to reach shoppers who viewed your products, or audiences similar to your buyers.

A sensible order for most brands

  1. Start with Sponsored ProductsBuild clean campaigns around your best keywords and products, and get profitable there first.
  2. Add Sponsored BrandsProtect branded searches and introduce your range at the top of search, with video if you have it.
  3. Layer in displayRetarget product viewers and reach relevant audiences once your core ads are working.
  4. Measure the whole accountJudge ad types by total sales and profit (TACoS), not ACoS alone, since upper-funnel ads assist later sales.

Common mistakes

  • Putting Sponsored Brands budget in before Sponsored Products are profitable
  • Sending Sponsored Brands traffic to a thin or outdated Brand Store
  • Judging display campaigns only on last-click ACoS
  • Running every ad type on products with weak listings or low stock

FAQ

What is the difference between Sponsored Products and Sponsored Brands?

Sponsored Products promote a single product and send shoppers to its detail page. Sponsored Brands show your brand with video, an image or a collection of products and can send shoppers to your Brand Store or detail pages.

Which Amazon ad type should I start with?

Most brands start with Sponsored Products because they target shoppers already searching and link straight to the product. Sponsored Brands and display ads usually come next.

What happened to Sponsored Display?

Amazon says Sponsored Display is now part of its wider display ads offering inside its Amazon Ads Agent platform. Existing Sponsored Display campaigns keep running, and new display campaigns are created under Display, Video and Audio.

Do I need Brand Registry for Sponsored Brands?

Sellers generally need to be enrolled in Amazon Brand Registry to run Sponsored Brands. Vendors can run them through their vendor account.

Are Sponsored Products pay-per-click?

Yes. Amazon describes Sponsored Products as cost-per-click ads: you pay when a shopper clicks.

Trustworthy partner in the Amazon business

I can say that I've found in CommerceKind a reliable and trustworthy partner in the Amazon business.

Before starting our collaboration I had several talks with Hamza where he showed to me the strategy and forecast with accuracy and realism; then after almost 3 months into the partnership I can state that his team's approach is deeply rooted into reality and efficiency since they operate on several sides of the seller account: ppc advertising and listing improvement, taking control over all issues that pop up when handling the operational side as well.

The weekly catch-up and open communication on everyday workflow makes them an asset in our structure.

After cycling through 3 agencies that overpromised and underdelivered, I was ready to manage everything in-house again. Giving CommerceKind a shot was a last-ditch effort, and I'm glad I did. The biggest difference is the communication. I have a dedicated account manager who actually understands my brand and sends me weekly Loom videos walking through the numbers. It finally feels like I have a real partner, not just a vendor.

They rescued our supplement launch

We were launching a new supplement in a brutally competitive category and our initial attempts were a disaster. We were burning cash on PPC with almost no sales and stuck on page 5. The CommerceKind team came in, completely overhauled our listing copy and A+ content, and built a launch strategy from scratch. Within 60 days, we hit the #1 New Release badge and are now holding strong on the first page for our main keywords. They literally saved the product.

True full-service management

I was spending 20+ hours a week in Seller Central dealing with inventory headaches, stranded listings, and fighting with support. Handing the reins to CommerceKind has been a massive weight off my shoulders. They handle everything from A to Z, and I've been able to get back to what I'm actually good at—developing new products. Worth every penny for the peace of mind alone.

Look at the TACoS, not just the ACoS

Our previous agency bragged about a low ACoS, but our overall sales were completely flat. CommerceKind explained how to use PPC to actually drive organic rank. They restructured our campaigns, cut a ton of wasted spend, and reinvested it into keywords that actually moved the needle. In four months, our TACoS dropped from 18% to 11% while our total revenue increased by 40%. The numbers speak for themselves.

Our conversion rate doubled

We had a great product in the home goods space, but our listing looked amateur and our conversion rate was stuck at 7%. CommerceKind's creative team did a full redesign—new main image, clear infographics, and a gorgeous Brand Store. The difference was immediate. Our conversion rate jumped to 15% in the first three weeks, which made all our ads way more profitable too.

Great Partner to Scale Our Business!

We have been working with CommerceKind for over 2 years, and they have helped us grow our Amazon business from the ground up. They've handled everything from product launches to PPC management, and the results have been great. Sales have steadily grown, and our ACoS is the lowest it's ever been.

What I really appreciate is how proactive and responsive they are. Anytime we have had a question or needed adjustments, they're quick to jump in with solutions. It feels like they truly care about our success, not just running ads.

Highly recommend CommerceKind if you're looking for a reliable partner to scale on Amazon!
